(Level IV) Secret Love This beloved standard has an infectious vamp with powerful swinging figures that serve as a vehicle for the featured soprano sax melody. A catchy solo sendoff leads to a soprano solo. Though not written, one option is for the soloist to begin the solo by vamping over the first two bars of the chart (Eb-B-E9) and cueing the solo section at 88 when ready. A trumpet solo follows the soprano solo with swinging backgrounds. A Thad Jones-influenced sax soli (with soprano lead) leads to a final, meaty ensemble shout. Interludes in the statements of the melody offer a fun ride for the band and keep the audience engaged throughout. Lead trumpet up to written Db and lead trombone up to Bb.
