Original

I Lift Up My Eyes composed by "James V. Marchionda, O.P.". For "SATB choir, assembly, guitar, keyboard. optional cello. WLP Choral Series. Sacred. Octavo. Published by World Library Publications. WL.008864. "For many years, through the ministry of parish mission preaching, Fr. Jim Marchionda has observed, learned, preached, and practiced that sacred music can bridge generation gaps between children and adults at worship. From Fr. Jim's most recent CD, Family, Friends, and God, we find his intuitive adaptation based on Psalm 121. A rich keyboard arrangement by Marek Rachelski adds the exquisite backdrop as it accompanies yet decorates the choral lines. The vocal writing for verses 1 and 3 is an exchange of ideas between SA and TB. In verses 2 and 4, the tenors sing the melody as the upper voices harmonically replicate and echo the musical phrases. Listen to Fr. Jim's recording and witness his powerful and thought-provoking preaching incorporated with and within musical selections.
